Hi Hi Yourself

Among the new cartoons announced for Cartoon Network's 2004 lineup are an interesting-looking French show called Code LYOKO; the new Astroboy, starting March 8th; and Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, a cartoon featuring Puffy, only one of the greatest bands ever. I am in total shock!

One of Japan's biggest pop music acts arrives in America, not with a massive stadium tour but as a cartoon. Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, set to debut in December, follows the adventures of two very cool, but very different, pop stars as they travel from gig to gig or just hang out in their hometown of Tokyo. Ami is the peppy, positive and resourceful one. Yumi is the hard-rocking, no-nonsense cynic with an absolutely infallible sense of cool. Together, they take the world by storm, despite occasional misjudgments from their well-meaning but tragically square manager, Kaz. Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi also will feature live-action segments starring the real life Puffy AmiYumi as well as the group's catchy J-pop hits.

I loooove Puffy. I have both sets of dolls (the Takara Jenny-style and the Rodney Alan Greenblatt vinyls), plus the Kubricks. All their albums, videos, etc. So how can there be a Puffy cartoon, and me with no work on it? There's no justice, I tell you.

Tubeway Army! "But are friends electric?" Bleet-bleet!
And what the hell happened to Astro Boy on the WB? Last two weeks, it's been Static Shock at eight thirty on Saturday. Did they pull it or move it?

me, I disconnect from you. ^_^

I have no idea on the astroboy thing, maybe they dropped it and that's why it's moving to Cartoon Network -- oh wow, that's in one week, isn't it? Maybe we'll actually watch it this time.

1. Astroboy--woo-hoo! Not at 8AM on a Saturday? Maybe I can watch it now?

2. Puffy AmiYumi--aren't they the group that sing the amazingly earwormish Teen Titans theme? That could explain the Cartoon Network tryout... :-)

yep, Puffy AmiYumi are the ones who do that theme. they've put out an album or two in North America as well, on Bar None records---the one called "Nice" has the Teen Titans theme in its entirety on it.

i've got this album of remixes called PRMX-Puffy Remix Project. it's...interesting. there's a Malcolm McLaren mix, f'rinstance. O.O;;;

looking forward to the cartoon~~~! Teen Titans is quite fun, too---least annoying moving portrayal of Robin i've ever seen! ;)

H'm, I see by the above that Cartoon Network is also planning to show "Mucha Lucha". Yeah, they probably pulled it. Isn't CN a Warners company?

Yes, CN is part of TW, which is why they have the DC animated stuff. I think it's odd that Astroboy would get yanked over so quick though...I thought it was supposed to be doing well? Who knows....

!!!

I love that band! I had no idea there were figures I could spend MORE money on!!! Where did you get yours?

They (Puffy) are actually working with one of my favorite guys in music today Andy Sturmer of Jellyfish fame. That's how I came to know them.

puffy stuff --

the takara dolls I got years ago, I have set #1 (you can see both sets here: http://www.bobagirl.com/anime/jenny/celebrity.html, please ignore the reviewer's complete lack of any idea what they're talking about, "talentless idol singers" indeed...);

the vinyl dolls are more recent but probably hard to find too, although they're the best set (photo here: http://www.justbetoys.com/medicom/medicom_puffy.jpg).

The latest are the block figs. You ought to be able to find them, Evan got me mine within the last couple months in the city. Hmm, here's a pic (http://216.247.86.99/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PUF001&Category_Code=NPJP-12). They're actually by Smiti. And...what on earth did I do with the cat?

Greenblat, hmm, that's the guy who made Parappa, right? That game was so cool.
