kid of speed
Here's some luck -- last week, I'd found this photo album/travelogue written by a young woman who lives near Chernobyl and rides through the "dead" zone often, bookmarked it and meant to post it, but she took her site down. Today, what do I find but a mirror of the site!! Yay! Thank you, ninja assassin, who ever you are. This is a must-read when you have a few minutes (and don't wait, this mirror might vanish as quickly as the original). I've never seen anything like the photos this girl has taken, and I've read a lot of National Geographics. It's absolutely haunting, and beautiful in that weird freaky way that ruins can be.

Wow.
Speechless.

Amazing. I was particularly touched by the doll pictures. So weird.

Man, this should definitely hang around to be shown to so many Americans who think that THEY have it bad (Not to say there aren't any folks here that "have it bad" but we have yet to have something THIS catastrophic to hit our country, and if we did, the world wouldn't stop hearing about it for many, many years). A conservative estimate of 120,000 dead is pretty horrific. And for (millions?) to just walk away from their lives on a moment's notice...
Anyway...
Thanks for the link, Sarah.

I'd be interested in doing a mirror but I have no idea how to go about it. Does anyone know how to do that? I'd just grab the html and the images and put it up with her info, but is that all there is to it?
:)

as far as I know, that's it. I don't know what the etiquette on mirroring a site is though, since it's technically republishing, not that you'd be making anything but...anyone out there have any idea?

The page is now back, and pictures and story are a bit different than on the mirror..
